Perhaps Mr. Tallon has allowed the "old school" bias from his coach add to his "old school" thinking. Trochek had his TOI cut back this year and role has diminished.

He's a very good player, only 26 and 2 injury filled years away from a 75 point season and the guys coming back are basically replacement players. It's a horrible thing to do to your team when in a fight for playoffs.

The return is fair enough 2 quality pieces plus 2 prospects is a decent haul for a 2nd line Center. The issue is whoever replaces him in the top six isn’t going to nearly be as a good. I would say if they deal Hoffman for a defensman it could make sense to deal trochek for 2 players that can play in your middle six so you don’t leave a hole in your lineup. Even then the panthers are 2 points back from the leafs with a game in hand. Considering how inconsistent the leafs have been any team in striking distance should be taking a chance

Trochek is a play driving monster. He's an extremely good hockey player even when not scoring. He is also 26 and has a 75 point 31 goal season. He may not be a star, but he has first line impact that none of the four pieces they got will ever give them.

This is the worst trade anyone in the NHL has made since Taylor Hall for Adam Larson.

If you did colour commentary for games, I'd pay to watch instead of using the pirate sites. I don't even care which team it is. Even the Leafs.

That 75 point 31 goal season was two years ago. That rest of his years average out to 5-60 points over 82 game seasons. He might be a great play driver but I don’t know anyone that would say 50-60 points is 1st line, at least not on a contending team. In my original post I wasn’t knocking the player at all, I just think the return is fine for the player that trochek is. The real issue with this trade is that the panthers are selling while barkov, huberdeau, and ekblad are in their prime. It might not have been futures in return but it doesn’t exactly send a message to his players that they’re trying to win now.

55 points is low end first line production, high end second line. He drives play and his peripheral stats make him a first liner, with enough star power to make a difference in the NHL.

This trade is an abomination, and one of the worst in NHL history.

That confirms it. This is a decent trade.

I know our society is strangely reverent of senility these days, so much so that being unable string together two straight coherent sentences is not seen as a weakness by a surprising amount of people.

Really? I feel like the reaction to your blogs is pretty strong evidence otherwise.

That's because most people just go by what the media tells them, so anyone who takes the time to dig deeper than results has to take a lot of crap. If you have the courage to write that the results are wrong, you'll take even more.

Also, no offense to anyone here, but people predisposed to commenting on the internet are always going to be more wrong than right. I take 100% of the criticism I receive with a grain of salt, because in real life I've never been called an idiot even once. Not in almost 40 years.

Nor have I. Probably because people are too polite to say such in "real life".

They are flat earthers who deny nearly every fact that doesn't conform to their preconceived notions and I am embarrassed for them. Also a weird correlation that I have noticed is most of them seem to be politically conservative, which I don't bring up to insult anyone, just it's kind of weird.

Ahh, the ole I'll insult them while telling them I'm not insulting them ploy. Maybe they'll buy it. C'mon tanner, get it together! That's an insult by itself. What you don't realize and never will realize is that the numbers are facts but what they tell you aren't! You never learned that and it's doubtful that you ever will.

Are we just going to ignore that you hate PP production for everyone else, but when Trochek has a monster year because of PP production, it's not worth bringing up?

I'm also not sure you know who Athanasiou is or you need to figure out how to read the fancy charts. He scored 30 goals last year, 27 were even strength. 3 is not half of 30.

It's possible I misread the stats, but I think you are wrong about AA scoring that many 5v5 goals.

He is a terrible GM but given how dumb most NHL GMs are, he's lucky if he's in the top ten worst.

You could do so much better, right James. All you need is a laptop and wifi to access naturalstatrick.
